WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU BELIEVE YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED A RACIST INCIDENT?

You can report a racist incident through the Norfolk Mult-Agency Protocol (MAP) under the Crime Reduction / Community Safety Partnerships. This is the procedure for doing this:

Report it to the Norfolk Constabulary and the NNREC

  • If you fear for your immediate safety use the police emergency number 999
  • If you are not immediately at risk, contact your police station on 01953 424242
  • You can contact the NNREC on 01603 611644
  • NNREC also has a 24 hour answer service on the same number, we will get back in touch with you - so leave a contact number and/or address.

ARE THERE OTHER AGENCIES YOU CAN REPORT TO?

Yes - the Norfolk Multi-Agency Protocol (MAP) tackling racism operates throughout the county of Norfolk

Your local Crime Reduction / Community Safety Partnership should have information on all agencies signed up to the MAP You can get information on the agencies on your local Crime Reduction Partnership by contacting your local authority and asking to speak to the person responsible for community safety / crime reduction.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT TO HAPPEN NEXT?

  • If you are in immediate danger the police should provide immediate response and answer 999 calls within 10 seconds
  • The police should be able to advise and assess the reported incident
  • The police should be able to provide support and if appropriate put you in touch with other relevant agencies
  • The main role of the police, in partnership with the other MAP agencies, is to record the incident on the racist incident form and to follow though in accordance with the procedures detailed in the MAP
  • An investigation should take place and should expect to be kept informed
  • The follow up should be in line with the MAP - detailed on this website
